Our Reconciliation Action Plan

South West Sport is proud to have its inaugural Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan formally endorsed by Reconciliation Australia.

Covering January to December 2027, our Reflect RAP provides a clear and accountable framework for strengthening relationships, respect and opportunities with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It reflects our commitment to building reconciliation into the way we operate, develop partnerships and support community sport and active recreation across South West Victoria.

South West Sport works with sporting clubs, leagues, associations, local government, state sporting bodies and community partners across Corangamite, Glenelg, Moyne, Southern Grampians and Warrnambool. Through this regional role, we have an opportunity to help shape sporting environments where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples feel respected, valued and represented, and where participation is culturally safe, accessible and welcoming.

Our Reflect RAP focuses on four key areas:

  • building and strengthening relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders and organisations
  • increasing cultural understanding, respect and recognition across our organisation
  • exploring opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employment, volunteering and procurement
  • establishing strong governance, accountability and reporting arrangements to support implementation

These commitments will be supported by practical actions, clear responsibilities and defined timeframes. This includes establishing a RAP Working Group with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander representation, strengthening staff cultural capability, reviewing organisational policies and practices, celebrating National Reconciliation Week and NAIDOC Week, and communicating openly about our progress, challenges and learnings.

Formal endorsement is an important milestone, but it represents the beginning of the work. We will approach the implementation of our RAP with humility, accountability and a genuine willingness to listen and learn. We look forward to working alongside Traditional Owners, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations, our partners and the broader community to translate these commitments into meaningful action.

Our RAP features Belonging Through Movement, an original artwork created for South West Sport by Stephanie Thompson (nee Clarke) of Kirrae Gunditj Art. The piece represents the strength, resilience and connection of communities across South West Victoria that come together through culture, sport and active recreation.
