The Games alternate on a 3 yearly basis around the 3 major cities of the Region:
The theme of friendly competition, sport, physical activity, exercise and enjoyment for all people in the South West was adopted with the aim of involving all the regional community in a festival of sporting and recreational activity as competitors, participants, administrators or spectators. The South West Games has encouraged a sense of Shire and Regional pride through awareness, involvement and friendship.
The Games continue to develop positive co-operation between the sports and very importantly generate huge economic benefits for the host municipality and for the South West in general.
