PARTICIPATION IN COMMUNITY SPORT AND ACTIVE RECREATION (PICSAR)

PICSAR is a program funded by the Victorian Health Promotion Foundation (VicHealth) that aims to increase participation in community sport and recreation, particularly for people facing health inequalities.

The aims of the PICSAR program are:

  • To increase participation in community sport and active recreation in Victoria, particularly for those of the target groups
  • To demonstrate the social, physical and mental health benefits of physical activity for healthy gain
  • To prioritise interventions aimed at getting in active people doing sufficient physical activity for health gain

    The key organisations involved in the delivery of the PICSAR scheme are Regional Sports Assemblies (RSAs). RSAs are situated in rural and regional Victoria and work with communities to identify opportunities to increase involvement in physical activity.

    KEY TARGET GROUPS:
    • People With Disabilities;
    • People from Low Socio-economic Communities;
    • Indigenous Communities; and
    • New Arrival Communities.
